POTUS lashes out against fake news

Donald Trump is one politician who knows his moves, be it attracting votes or ostracising journalists propagating fake news. Apparently, the peril of fake news that the world is facing is irritating the President of United States of America as well. The series of events that led to this conclusion unfolded in the wake of a mass killing at a synagogue and an apparent bombing plot where Trump blames the media for the outburst of public anger that followed.

Trump’s Outrage

The president of USA took to the micro-blogging site Twitter to express his anger where he wrote, “There is great anger in our Country caused in part inaccurate, and even fraudulent, reporting of the news.” Donald Trump also called the “fake news media” the “true enemy of the people” and also said that “journalists must stop the open & obvious hostility & report the news accurately & fairly, that will do much to put out the flame.”

Trump condemned the Pittsburgh shooting in which a gunman had killed eleven civilian in the Tree of Life synagogue which he accompanied lashing out against the media and tweeting about fake news in a statement that goes “[fake news is] doing everything in their power to blame Republicans, Conservatives and me for the division and hatred that has been going on for so long in our Country. Actually, it is their Fake & Dishonest reporting which is causing problems far greater than they understand!”

According to the professor of history and public affairs of Princeton University, Julian Zelizer, Donald Trump’s reaction was very predictable. She also said “Nothing distracts President Trump from his political message. He has a series of opponents, with the media right up top, and crises, scandals, and turmoil do not distract him from returning to these themes. He is refusing to let the events of the past week control the agenda, and he is finding a way to fit the pipe bombs, the shooting and more into his familiar narrative of his being unfairly attacked the media”.
